The Seaweed Gatherings III - The Gift of Making
Sunday July 20th | KNOCKvologan Barn 14:00-16:00
After working out in the open during the first two workshops, we now return to the studio with our harvest and shared experience to explore the act of making as an offering – a gift. Inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer’s reflections on reciprocity and sustainable harvest, The Gift of Making invites participants to engage with seaweed as both a living material and a cultural force. Through collaborative trials, we’ll explore seaweed’s material qualities in a hands-on, improvisational way. Drawing on local knowledge and welcoming guest makers, we’ll share skills in a spirit of generosity and curiosity. This workshop is not about perfection or permanence, but about giving something back – to the land, the sea, and to one another.
Tradition & Resistance: An Evening of Powerful Song Sunday 20th July 7-9pm
We’re delighted to invite you to a special evening of traditional music and songs of resistance at the KNOCKvologan Barn, featuring six remarkable singers and musicians.
Lainey Dempsey, singer/songwriter from Glasgow, returns to KNOCKvologan with a powerful mix of unaccompanied traditional and contemporary songs of resistance and protest.
Bennery Rickard, originally from Limerick and now based in Co. Kildare, has been a stalwart of Dublin’s renowned Goilin Singing Sessions since the 1980s. With a rich repertoire of narrative songs—funny, political, or deeply moving—she is a seasoned and much-loved session singer.
Micheál Quinn, hailing from South Armagh and also living in Co. Kildare, comes from a long line of well-known traditional singers. His repertoire draws deeply from the Ulster tradition and the songs passed down through his family. Micheál is a regular guest at traditional festivals across Ireland and the UK.
Also returning to KNOCKvologan are The Three Bum Notes, with Ele Forster, Craig Bryce, and Iain Findlay, bringing a lively mix of songs and tunes from the Highlands on pipes, whistle, and bodhrán.
