Tireragan

In the summer of 2016, at the Southern tip of the Ross of Mull on the West Coast of Scotland, Rutger Emmelkamp and Miek Zwamborn set up a study place without walls. The area where they work is called Tireragan, a Gaelic word for ‘land of angry waves’.

Harnassing locally found and excavated materials and ideas, influenced by tidal movements, storms, eagles and seaweed, they explore the interactions between the rugged coastal landscape and the creativity of people: fisherman, farmers, poets, scientists and artists.

This edition exist out of an long poem inspired on the turbulent geological past of Mull, a microcosm of the earth’s geology, with rocks and landscapes dating from as recently as 11.000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age, to rocks that are close to 3 billion years old. The text is accompanied by multicolored images from the shore line of Mull taken from the air.
